Kanica Ghai's Beauty Secrets

Home  Shringaar  Features Kanica Ghai's Beauty Secrets

‘Meena Beendini’ has become a household name and all credit goes to Kanica for portraying the character with such effortless ease. Meena’s personality in Diya aur Baati hum is a burst of bright colours quite similar to the gorgeous Bandini saris she wears on the show. Kanica, on the other hand is a simple, shy and soft spoken woman. It has been an extremely busy period for this versatile actress – daily shooting, Nach Baliye and first wedding anniversary celebrations with her soul mate. Tinsel Gupshup catches up with Kanica Ghai to bring you her beauty secrets.

TG: You have beautiful skin, please share your regimen with us (morning and night)

KG: I follow a very basic regime of cleansing, toning and moisturizing. When I am not shooting, I don’t wear any makeup. I am also very particular about removing my makeup after the shoot.

TG: At shoots, do you wear your own brand of make-up?

KG: Yes…absolutely. I use Bobbi Brown because it really suits me. You know, when you wear foundation, it should not look like you have layers of White cakey stuff on your skin. So, it is very important to pick a foundation that is closest to your skin tone. Bobbi Brown suits me that way and that brand also has beautiful shades for the lips and cheeks.

TG: What is the one skin care product you absolutely cannot do without?

KG: Oh…I love Amway! It is a completely organic range and all my cleansing and moisturizing products are from Amway. I swear by that brand.

TG: How do you deal with the occasional break-out?

KG: (Laughs). You know, if you still get pimples, it means you are still young! So when I get a pimple, I actually feel good about the fact that I am still young! In terms of dealing with a pimple…I don’t pick at it and I just let it heal. If I have to shoot, then I’ll apply a medicated cream and leave it overnight.

TG: When it comes to skin care and make-up products are you an impulsive shopper or do you research before you buy and try?

KG: I don’t like using chemicals on my skin so I have to know what is in the product. I read the label to find out what kinds of ingredients have been used and I don’t get carried away by fancy bottles and packaging.

TG: How do you pamper your skin? (Spa treatments, masks)

KG: When I get time off, I like to go to a spa. If I am at home, I’ll apply a Multani Mitti mask and I also have this Black Sea Clay mask that I use when I have the time.

TG: What products do you carry in your handbag?

KG: Let’s see…I have a lip gloss, Kajal, my wallet, keys and my Hanuman Chalisa

TG: What is your magic home remedy? Something your mother or grandmother taught you?

KG: My mom used to apply honey to my skin and I still try to follow that. Also, my mom would apply egg on my hair and scalp. I feel that home remedies are the best way to take care of your skin. You can make so many face packs with fruits like papaya etc.

TG: Late night shoots, you wake up feeling blah...what do you do for a skin pick me up?

KG: Work is work and our timings are very hectic so you can’t really do anything about waking up feeling tired. When I apply my makeup, the tiredness does go away because then I get into work mode. When my eyes feel really tired, I’ll apply cucumber slices on them.

TG: One actor (female - Films, Television or Hollywood) who you think has flawless and beautiful skin?

KG: I think Kareena Kapoor has beautiful skin. I have seen her without makeup and she looks so beautiful.

TG: What is Kanica’s trademark make-up style?

KG: I use kajal, a nice lip gloss and lots of confidence

TG: What is the best compliment someone has given you about your skin?

KG: I do receive a lot of compliments about skin. A lot of people tell me that I look younger than my age and that is a big compliment for any woman to receive.

TG: Any beauty advice you would like to share?

KG: Don’t use too much makeup. I think every girl is beautiful and makeup just makes you look older and it strips away your natural beauty. So don’t hide your natural beauty under layers of makeup
